According to the EPA,\u00a0InvestUP\u00a0was\u00a0one of only five recipients in the\u00a0state and\u00a0was the largest award in Michigan.\u00a0Through the grant,\u00a0InvestUP\u00a0will\u00a0lead a coalition\u00a0that will support\u00a0environmental assessment work on brownfield sites as well as\u00a0community engagement\u00a0activities. The award is expected to provide new tools\u00a0and resources\u00a0to help communities address blighted and underutilized site challenges and improve readiness for future investment and redevelopment, which is especially\u00a0timely\u00a0in light of\u00a0the present growth opportunities in front of the region.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This grant is consistent with the work that\u00a0InvestUP\u00a0has been\u00a0doing\u00a0across the U.P. to help move\u00a0development projects ahead by connecting communities with resources and technical support that can unlock redevelopment opportunities.\u00a0This\u00a0type of\u00a0funding is especially important in the U.P. where many communities have promising sites with strong redevelopment potential\u00a0that\u00a0sit\u00a0in limbo because\u00a0additional\u00a0environmental due diligence\u00a0and site work\u00a0needs to be resolved before projects can\u00a0proceed.\u00a0As a result, this funding will help Western Upper Peninsula\u00a0communities\u00a0access\u00a0the necessary support\u00a0to\u00a0create\u00a0a\u00a0real\u00a0chance to put those properties back to use\u00a0at the most opportune of times.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">InvestUP CEO Marty Fittante<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0explains, \u201cThe\u00a0Western\u00a0U.P. has an abundance of sites with potential. What\u00a0these\u00a0communities often lack is the\u00a0resources\u00a0needed to do the upfront work that makes redevelopment possible.
