When COVID-19 cases were spiking across the state last spring, many thought Upper Peninsula tourism would struggle\u2014instead, it thrived. Those wary of catching the virus indoors or on planes traveled to the great outdoors in the U.P., resulting in record visitations at campgrounds and hotels, canoe liveries, hiking trails, and pasty shops. By September, nearly half a million people were streaming into the U.P. via the Mackinac Bridge, more than any of the previous six Septembers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
