Record high tourism helps U.P. economy recover in pandemic aftermath

Upper Peninsula businesses are continuing to rebound in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. InvestUP CEO Marty Fittante says tourism has skyrocketed in the U.P. since the pandemic lockdowns were lifted, with a high number of visitors spending money in the region, helping the economy recover faster than other areas. Additionally, LSCP Business Development Director Mary Myers notes that start-up businesses are being created across the region at a high rate—another factor helping build the post-pandemic economy. “We usually see between 10% to 15% of start-ups and that number has actually doubled,” Myers said. “We saw 31% last year.”
