Great Lakes Boat Building School receives $2.7M to increase capacity

The Great Lakes Boat Building School in Cedarville, MI, is receiving a $2.7M CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant to construct a 10,000 sq. ft. school expansion, establish a new boat-docking infrastructure, and purchase additional marine electronics testing equipment. According to the Great Lakes Boat Building School, the project is expected to double the training capacity for marine service technicians at the school. The grant will be matched with $686,595 in local funds and is expected to create 270 jobs and generate $5M in private investment.

Nikki Storey, President of GLBBS, said, “By expanding our instructional infrastructure and thereby more than doubling our annual graduation capacity, this is a significant step in addressing the distressing workforce shortage in the Great Lakes Marine Industry and beyond.” Read more here.
