New federal ABR grant available for U.P. tourism, entertainment, and retail businesses

Deadline is March 31

UPPER PENINSULA, MI (March 2, 2022) Qualifying Upper Peninsula businesses that have suffered financial hardship from COVID-19 are encouraged to apply for the State of Michigan’s new Afflicted Business Relief (ABR) grant program. There is a total of $409 million in funds available from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The nine eligible business categories include entertainment venues, recreational facilities and public places of amusement, barbers and cosmetologists, exercise facilities, food establishments, nursery dealers and growers, athletic trainers, body art facilities, and hotels and bed and breakfast establishments.

Small “brick and mortar” businesses that conduct operations in Michigan and experienced a financial decline of greater than 5% or closed due to COVID-19 are encouraged to apply.

Applications are open now and must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on March 31, 2022. Applications must be submitted online only—paper applications will not be accepted. To learn more about eligibility, the award methodology, and the application process, click here.
