Iron River’s Nick Baumgartner wins gold at the 2022 Winter Games

U.S. snowboarders Nick Baumgartner (an Iron River native) and Lindsey Jacobellis made history after winning gold at the mixed team snowboard cross event in Beijing. The two made record books for their win at the first-ever mixed team snowboard cross competition. The win gives Baumgartner his first gold ever, making him the oldest snowboarder to win a medal of any hue at an Olympic Winter Games.

The gold medalist returned to the U.P. on Monday to a warm welcome, with crowds gathering to greet him in Iron Mountain, Florence, and Crystal Falls before he got to the Iron River area. Read more here.
