Lt. Gov. Gilchrist shares importance of investing in rural communities

Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist was recently in the Upper Peninsula and visited a number of key businesses across the region. He spent time in Escanaba where he stopped at OSF St. Francis Hospital as well as Beaver’s Lures downtown. Later, he visited Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique and Iverson Showshoes in Wetmore. On Saturday, Lt. Governor Gilchrist kicked off the Noquemanon Ski Marathon in Ishpeming.

Lt. Governor Gilchrist noted the importance of investing in rural communities, especially with the recently formed Office of Rural Development. “We really want to make sure that there are resources to support ingenuitive people and entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes who are doing amazing things in rural Michigan that give these communities this lifeblood and identity, great jobs, and opportunities for people,” he said.

As a part of our commitment to the Upper Peninsula, we collaborate with partners to share some of the most compelling stories about business and job growth across the region. Our goal through these stories is to get at the heart of what makes the U.P. unique — and to ensure these stories travel beyond our peninsula and broadly illustrate why the UP is the place to live and work.
