Houghton receives $5.2M investment in pier and community space

The City of Houghton is moving forward with its “Pier Placemaking Project” after a $4 million grant was approved by the MEDC, with an additional $1.2 million investment from the city itself.

The project—which is expected to improve safety and accessibility along the Portage Canal while enhancing existing downtown attractions—will serve as a year-round gathering place with niches for small groups and picnics, green space, parking, and a dock capable of accomodating Great Lakes cruise ships.
